Catalogue entry no. 445 by Max Loehr:
445 Feline on Top of a Finial
Highly polished, translucent, light gray-green jade with dark marginal markings. At the bottom of the finial, shaped like half an Ionic capital, is an oxidized remnant of a bronze haft. The animal seems to be a cross between a tiger and a ram. The tiger-like head is raised, its mouth wide open. Below the slightly hollowed-out, cross-hatched ear is a horn or plume which rests on the animal’s back. Its forelegs are folded under, the hindlegs are tensely poised. The long tail, striated at the curled tip, touches the volute of the “capital.” Both sides identical. Late Eastern Chou.
