446 Feline Caryatid
Whitish translucent jade, the glossy surface of which is impaired by calcification. The small openwork plaque represents a feline standing upright on his one pair of feet; his body and curlicue tail sweep upward like the tail of a rooster. His head and tail support a pedestaled emblem the shape of which is reminiscent of the bottle-shaped horns of Shang and Western Chou dragons. The parts of the animal’s body are defined in low relief. Late Eastern Chou.
