Catalogue entry no. 463 by Max Loehr:

463 Belt Hook
Opaque, mottled buff stone with a few bluish green patches. Glossy polish. In its general shape the object is similar to No. 462 except that the stem widens considerably as it approaches the shield. The décor consists of a sharply cut, low relief configuration of two birds facing each other. Their elongated bodies—featherless tails, as it were—converge above an animal mask at the bottom of the shield, flanking the mask with their awkwardly placed feet. The shield is surrounded by a hollow-beveled border. A simplified feline head forms the hook. On the back is a heavy stud with round bottom, on the face of which appears an incised whorl design. The edges of this piece are extremely sharp-cornered, the only chamfered edges being those at the back under the hook. Late Eastern Chou.
