229 Jade Spearhead on a Bronze Socket
Short, fragmentary blade of translucent light green jade with opaque buff clouds. Its slightly bent median crest and outward-curving facets suggest that it was the fore part of a ko, with the base recut to form a narrow trapezoidal tang. This tang is inserted into a slot at the top of an oval, tapering bronze socket with a lug on either side. The bronze is covered with green patina and small patches of malachite. The components may be of different age, but the assemblage could date form the Western Chou period.
