Descriptions Description Elongated tripod vessel of cylindrical form raised on three short conical feet and with wide, flared mouth; medium gray earthenware burnished to a smooth black surface. Vessels of this shape are unique to Lower Xiajiadian culture, whose type site of Xiajiadian is in Dadianzi, near Chifeng, eastern Inner Mongolia, northeastern China. Commentary Compare to: (1) Tripod vessel of the same form but with cold-painted decor excavated from a Lower Xiajiadian tomb site at Dadianzi, Chifeng, Aohan Banner, Inner Mongolia, now in the Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing.
