Description
Jar with curved, “saddle-shaped” mouth, broad shoulders, sides tapering inward to a small, flat base, and two strap handles attached from rim to top of shoulders; gray earthenware with irregular markings from firing. Siwa culture. From the upper Yellow River valley region; Gansu of Shaanxi province.
Commentary
Compare to:
Jar of similar form unearthed from a Siwa culture site in Disiping, Lianlu, Kangle county, Gansu province, now in the Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture Museum, Gansu. See Zhongguo taoci quanji [The Complete Works of Chinese Ceramics], vol. 2: Xia, Shang, Zhou, Chunqiu, Zhanguo [Xia, Shang, Zhou, Spring and Autumn, and Warring States periods] (Shanghai: Shanghai renmin meishu chubanshe, 2000), no. 90, pp. 104 and 252.
