Commentary
Compare to:
(1) Covered celadon jar of virtually identical form, with same squared lug handles, incised decor, and lid attributed to the late Northern and Southern Dynasties period (420-589) excavated in 1983 at Tuanhu village, Ruanqiao township, Cizhou, Anhui province, now in the Guichi District Office for the Management of Cultural Relics in Cizhou. See Zhongguo chutu ciqi quanji [Complete Collection of Chinese Ceramics Unearthed in China], vol. 8: Anhui (Beijing: Kexue chubanshe, 2008), no. 45.
(2) Celadon jar of closely related form and decor, but with rounded lug handles and missing lid dated to the sixth century and attributed to the Xiangyin kilns in Hunan excavated in 1993 in Chenzhou city, Hunan province, now in the Chenzhou Office for the Management and Preservation of Cultural Relics. See Zhongguo chutu ciqi quanji [Complete Collection of Chinese Ceramics Unearthed in China], vol. 13: Hubei Hunan (Beijing: Kexue chubanshe, 2008), no. 141.
