Descriptions Description Jar with flared mouth, short, cylindrical neck, ovoid body flattened on one side, two loop handles on the shoulders, bordering the flattened back, pointed tab on the front, and flat base; medium gray earthenware with applique elements. Dawenkou culture. From the middle and lower Yellow River valley regions; Shandong, northern Jiangsu, northern Anhui, and eastern Henan provinces. Commentary Compare to: (1) Numerous flat-backed jars of related form were excavated in 1959 at Dawenkou, Tai’an, Shandong province.
