Inscriptions and Marks watermark: on all sheets, paper: The mark is that popularly known as "Pro Patria" (also "Tuin," Garden of Holland, Maid of Dordrecht); the countermark is GR surmounted by a crown and surrounded by a laurel wreath, within a circle. This type of mark, geberally speaking, dates from the mid to late 18th c. Gravell records its use in the United States from the late 18th to the early 19th c. It is generally considered to be of Dutch manufacture, frequently for the English market.
