2.2002.3747: The start from Camp Mojave, Arizona, September 15, 1871
PhotographsTwo nearly identical black and white photographs next to each other (for stereoscopic viewing) with a sepia tone. From the edge of a river, a group of men women and children watch four small boats moving away from them. Each boat is loaded to capacity with occupants and have multiple long oars standing straight upwards. A rope connects the first and last boat, traveling along the middle boats as well. The boats cast small reflections in the water. A sliver of shoreline can be seen on the distant horizon under a grey sky.
