Descriptions Description Thickly painted abstraction on two joined stretchers surrounded by simple wooden strip frame. Commentary Jensen is a major post-war American abstract painter whose importance was underscored most recently by a retrospective at Dia in New York. While of the abstract expressionist generation, he was much admired by minimalist and conceptualist artists (Judd, Bochner) for his dazzling, monumental, thickly painted diagrams. This work is a study for one section of “Kronos,” the 5-panel mural that he executed in 1968 for the Empire State Plaza art collection in Albany, where it still hangs--a convenient circumstance that will allow students to study the painting and then see the mural first-hand.
