    Translation:
    Matteo Küsse of Augusta - brother of Melchiorre, a celebrated engraver. Matteo was a most celebrated engraver (born 1621 - died 1702 in Vienna) - / particularly [for his work] with the burin. He was at the court of Cesarea and Bavarica [?] / to many other outstanding teachers [or instructors]. He engraved [designs] by Lodovico Burancini / engineer of S.M.C [?] a good many theater scenes with actors and supernumeraries - / - Gori Gandellini - Notizie degli intagliatori -" [This last line indicates that the preceding information is from Gandellini's late-18th-century book "Notizie storiche degli intagliatori".]

  • watermark: first endpage (with handwritten title); left side, one-third down from top edge, paper: Viewed from the recto: 'CB' in script letters above a horizontal stylized tree branch with symmetric leaf patterns, all balanced on a concave mount or fulcrum
  • watermark: second endpage; upper left corner, paper: Viewed from the verso: the letter 'A' centered above the letters 'H' and 'F' ; each letter with rounded serifs or other decorative flourishes
  • watermark: second endpage, near the center of the page, paper: Viewed from the verso: a robust, stylized bird facing right, perhaps holding a leaved branch in its claws
  • watermark: penultimate endpage, near the center, paper: Viewed from the recto: three six-pointed stars (one above two) encircled by a wavy line. This mark is similar to Heawood 3884 (within a circle, three six-pointed stars [two above one], with the initials 'C C'), attributed to Rome, 1646.
  • inscription: penultimate endpage, beginning at top left corner, brown ink, handwritten, Italian: "10 marzo 1766 [year underscored] impegnato da via cesseo [?] [illegible; a seller's price code?]"
