Virtual Student Guide Tour: Printmaking and Womanhood, with Sinead Danagher, Calla Bai, and Alexis Boo

In this photomontage, a young woman holds her hands up to frame a floating woodcut print beside her. The print depicts a person wearing black with a sorrowful expression on their face and their hands close to their chest, as if in a self-embrace. The young woman, in a sweater and corduroys, sits on a couch by a window.
Sinead Danagher will discuss Käthe Kollwitz’s 1922–23 print The Widow I in the tour. Woodcut printed in black ink on cream wove paper. Harvard Art Museums/Busch-Reisinger Museum, Museum purchase, BR33.38. © Estate of Käthe Kollwitz, Artists Rights Society (ARS), New York/VG Bild-Kunst, Bonn.

In celebration of Women’s History Month, Sinead Danagher ’22, Calla Bai ’22, and Alexis Boo ’22, three Ho Family Student Guides who were classmates in Harvard’s Critical Printing seminar last fall, will discuss the portrayal of womanhood in three prints from the collections.
